Description: How does social justice show up in clinical social work? What ethical obligations do clinical social workers have to engage in social & political action? What gets in the way? In this interactive workshop, we will discuss these questions and more. Meets Utah CE requirement for Ethics Learning Objectives: - Describe how the socio-political environment impacts the well-being of clients they serve.
- Summarize the calls to social & political action for socialworkers found in the NASW Code of Ethics and other social work professional codes.
- Generate examples of social & political action to advocate forpeople “who are vulnerable, oppressed, and living in poverty” who we are ethically bound to serve. Identify barriers to social & political action andstrategies for addressing them.
Presenter Bio: Lori Watsen is a Lecturer/Assistant Professor for the University of Utah's College of Social Work and a self-proclaimed social work geek. She received her MSW from Boise State in 2002 and worked for many years providing clinical and practical support for people with cancer and their families. Lori enjoys spending time with friends and family, reading, cooking, and watching movies. She and her family spend a lot of time in their camper van exploring and playing in the beautiful Idaho outdoors and beyond |
